Where is Soma Bay?
Some map descriptions put Soma Bay in Hurghada, while others locate it in Safaga. Technically it’s closer to Safaga than it is Hurghada. In fact you can just see the start of Safaga as you look over the sea to the south. But then again, Hurghada is a bigger city and it’s easier to orientate yourself from Hurghada and the airport than it is from anywhere else.
Driving to Soma Bay, I found that it wasn’t very well signposted. You do see signs, but right when it matters, no sign has an arrow saying “Soma Bay – This Way” – that is at the time of this writing at least. But then again, you can’t really miss it. It must be said that Google maps will direct you to Soma Bay without any issues but I always like to orientate myself mentally because your mind is, after all, your greatest asset.

You can’t miss it.
If you miss the little U-turn that takes you to the main gate of Soma Bay, you can keep heading towards Safaga until you get to a big circle with a 4-faced model of a blue ship in the middle. Go back on yourself for just a few minutes and take a right. Follow that road all the way down until you get to the Soma Bay entrance. Drive even further down until you see signs for the various area.
As I drove around for about 30 minutes I got acquainted with which roads join to the Marina, which ones go through Wadi Jebal, Soma Reef and Soma Breeze – and then how to get all the way round to Mesca and Bay West.
